I met Death once beyond the veil, in the quiet place where souls lingered. She comforted me, wrapping her web around my heart and offered me solace. Her eyes promised peace. Her tongue spoke healing words. Spells perhaps. Maybe even curses. It didn’t matter. She granted me one wish, and I accepted.
I hovered over him, watching tears stream down his face as he pleaded for mercy. I felt his pain as I too was trapped, begging for someone to rescue me. But I had to uphold my end of the bargain if Death was to spare my daughter’s life.
